​​​NIH NCATS: Intranet Migration 

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) is a division of NIH which focuses on what is common across diseases, employing teams from diverse scientific disciplines to reduce, remove or bypass significant bottlenecks across the entire continuum of translation. In 2011, they transitioned from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) to NCATS, which involved rebranding their intranet, while at the same time upgrading from SharePoint 2007 to 2010.  

Performance Period 

October 2011 – July 2012 

Number of Users 

122 NCATS employees; over 15,000 NIH employees (excluding contractors) 

Technical Accomplishments 

  • Upgraded the NCRR Intranet from SharePoint 2007 to 2010, including a large library of custom code 

  • Created all new branding for NCATS: Layouts, Master Pages, CSS, and XSLT 

  • Developed numerous custom web parts to display home page content 

Results Achieved 

  • Successfully transitioned from NCRR to NCATS as decreed by executive order in December 2011 

  • Communicated NCATS’ message internally through styling, structure, and availability of information on the NCATS home page.
